Katie Jarman

Katie has been in the dance industry for over 40 years and is an acclaimed performer. Having started her dancing career performing with Sammy Davis Junior at age 3, she has gone on to achieve many dancing accolades. Katie trained at the Shirley Haliday Dance School for 12 years studying all genres of dance including, Jazz, Tap, Classical (RAD & CSTD), Contemporary, Acrobatics and Musical Theatre. She continued her training at Dance Arts Studio where she gained experience teaching CSTD classes in Tap, Jazz, Classical and Acrobatics. She won numerous dancing awards including the State CSTD Classical award, Advanced RAD Ballet award and achieved the prestigious Blue Sash Award. After the closure of Dance Arts Studio, Katie began free lancing as a teacher and choreographer. Katie has taught and choreographed both locally and internationally and has adjudicated several dance competitions including the Asia Pacific Dance Competition held in Hong Kong.  

Early in her career Katie performed in various musicals including Scrooge the Musical, Annie and Anything Goes. As well as dancing for the Perth Wildcats and AFL West Coast Eagles, Katie spent several years as a dancer in the ‘Steve Armstrong and the Fabulous Flirtettes’ show. In 1998 Katie joined international show band ‘One Step Ahead’ as a dancer, singer and musician playing trumpet, flute and keys, which saw her perform all around Australia, China and Singapore.

Katie was also a member of the winning State hip hop crew ‘The Tribe’ and in 2008 she trained in Los Angeles on a hip hop scholarship. Katie has performed with and supported many Australian and international artists such as Sting, John Farnham, Roberta Flack and Jessica Mauboy.

In addition to singing and dancing, Katie was also a talented actress. In demand at an early age Katie would be seen in numerous television commercials, radio adverts and short films. In 1989 she acted alongside her sister Nikky in the Australian film ‘Simon and Daisy’ featuring Jan Adele and Sean Scully. Katie played the role of ‘Leanne’, granddaughter to Jan Adeles character ‘Daisy’.

Katie’s work ethic filters through not only her performing life, but throughout her schooling and work career. Katie holds a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics), Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting), is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAA) and in 2021 she completed her post grad in Petroleum Engineering. She is testament to the fact that you can do it all when you put your mind to it.  

Katie drives this work ethic through to her students and through her choreography, always striving to be better than the day before. Katie’s passion for dancing and creating shines through her choreography. Winning numerous choreography awards she continues to challenge herself and her students with her creative ideas.
